Application

Shah Abd Hafiz Zainal Abidin, Shah Abd Hafiz Zainal Abidin

To implement IoT in an agriculture industry, particularly in monitoring an automated fertigation
system. The

The web-based system using SQLite database language and ‘lighttpd’ (an open source web-server), the automatic fertigation system and the communication setup. Mega Arduino is used as the microcontroller, pcDuino (the CPU), ultrasonic sensors, valve sensor and electrical conductivity (EC) sensor. Connection with mobile devices using wireless system in CPU or using internet. CPU act as Access Point for mobile devices and functions as router for sensors. The connection using internet must be using the RJ-45 Ethernet wire and set the IP for main router of internet.

The web GUI's help in farmers to easily interacted with the monitoring and sending the data to the microcontroller for processing and later sent to the microprocessor to update the database. The data updated shown in the webpage. The mixture tank is where the EC value is tester before flow out to plants. There are also Schedule Activation page, where the users set the composition parameters of fertilizers. There are also manual fertigation page without following  schedule.

The system proposed only for small scale farming within 1.0 acre to 1.5 acre. For commercial or large size deployment may use other way of communication.

Application of Potassium nutrition supply to shallots plants under Smart K-Sprinkler fertigation in dry land.

Nur Iman Muztahidin, Alfu Laila, Mona Sari, Andi Apriany Fatmawati, Nuniek Hermita

To investigate smart k – sprinkle fertigation in dry land with potassium nutrition supply on growth and yield of shallot plants.

Designed in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. Experiment was conducted in six different treatments as K50: Potassium nutrition of 50 kg.ha-1 under smart K – sprinkle fertigation system; K75: Potassium nutrition of 50 kg.ha-1 under smart K – sprinkle fertigation system; K100: Potassium nutrition of 50 kg.ha-1 under smart K – sprinkle fertigation system; K125: Potassium nutrition of 50 kg.ha-1 under smart K – sprinkle fertigation system; K150: Potassium nutrition of 50 kg.ha-1 under smart K – sprinkle fertigation system; Control: conventional fertilizer of 100 kg.ha-1 as basal dose recommendation.

Smart K – sprinkle fertigation system revealed to increase shallot plant on growth and yield. The use of Potassium nutrition of 50 kg.ha-1 (K50 treatment) showed the highest value on number of leaves plant weight, and bulbs weight per plant, as well as on the potential yields.

The results also affected by the   pests and disease disorder which causes the results to have error with difference variable observed.

Potassium nutrition differentially affect early growth and leaf greenness of shallot under micro sprinkle fertigation in dry land

A Laila, M Sari, N I Muztahidin, A A Fatmawaty, N Hermita

The effect of Potassium nutrition differentially on early vegetative stage on growth and leaf greenness of shallot cultivated in dry land under micro sprinkle fertigation system.

Experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. The treatment consisted of Potassium of 50, 75, 100, 125, and 150 kg.ha-1 under micro sprinkle fertigation system and 100 kg.ha-1 as basal dose recommendation under conventional irrigation system as control.

There were differences among treatments both of plant height and number of leaves per plant of shallot. Plant height and number of leaves was maximum at 75% of Potassium basal dose recommendation under micro sprinkle fertigation system in early vegetative growth. The obtained results indicated that higher basal dose level disturbed plant growth. So, right basal dose of fertilizer application is necessary.

The experiment was done by mixing and preparing the fertigation solution manually which may lead to error of measuring.

To fabricate and test a wireless programming and data monitoring device that is capable of monitoring volumetric water content and climate condition in the fertigation farming facilities simultaneously.

A wireless programmable and data monitoring device was designed around the BasicStamp 2 microcontroller (Parallax). Flashfly wireless programming module (BlueWolf) with XBee Pro S1 wireless module (Digi) and 433 Mhz Radio frequency (RF) transceiver (Parallax). A Weatherproof box. Air temperature and humidity sensors were position at the front of the electronic box to permit air exchange, and the light sensor is located on top of the electronics box. Power is provided by solar power system which consists of rechargeable lithium ion batteries (12V, 3800mAh), solar charge controller circuit and 1 watt solar panel. Temperature sensor, LM35DZ (Texas Instruments) and humidity sensor HSM20-G (Shenzen Mingjiada Electronics).

Plant irrigated for 4 times a day with total 350cm^3 nutrient. Sensor shows decline trend 3 hours before 3rd irrigation and after 3rd irrigation minimum sensor distortion in VCW. While in temperature and humidity monitoring, the average air temperature during monitoring period is 37.8°C and maximum temperature at 46.1°C. Average humidity recorded at 52.6 % and maximum and minimum at 88.2 % and 30.8% respectively.

The data recorded only for a day that is hard to do comparison between irrigation per day.

Fertigation: A novel and efficient means for fertilizer application

Abdul Hakkim, V. M., Abhilash Joseph, E., Ajay Gokul, A. J. and Mufeedha, K.

A research article of fertigation

In the research paper, the advantage and disadvantage of fertigation were discussed, the application of fertilizer, solubility, acidity, quantity, fertigation equipment (Venturi assembly, fertilizer tank, fertilizer injection pump), Efficacy of drip fertigation and impact of drip fertigation.

Fertigation is mixing the fertilizer and irrigation. The advantages are a lot more than disadvantage, where the cons are pricey, high quality of water and heavily reliant of overall irrigation infrastructure design. In fertilizer application, the solubility, acidity, and cost of fertilizer are considered. In solubility, not all fertilizer is soluble, in fertigation the fertilizer must be dissolved completely. The acidity of soil, pH must be checked in the beginning of fertigation and the quantity of fertilizer are varied to the growth season.

The research is done generally without any specified crops.
